A Case of Diphenylhydantoin Induced Severe Aplastic Anemia

Abstract

|
Since it´s introduction for treatment of seizures in 1938, diphenylhydantoin(DPH) has remained one of the most widely used anticonvulsants. DPH may induce serious damage to the hemopoietic system, and aplastic anemia is one of the rarest but serious complication of this drug.
We are reporting a patient who developed severe aplastic anemia while taking diphenylhydantoin and completely recovered when the drugs"` were withdrawn. We present the clinical, hematological findings and clinical course with the brief review of literature.
